Why are some items available for preorder? How do you choose what items are available for preorder?Updated 3 months ago

Some items that we commonly get in stock are available for preorder when they are not currently in stock. This may include some common houseplants, soil, DIY terrarium kits, moss and, in November and December, Christmas trees and wreath foliage. We put items for preorder either when we know we will be able to restock them at fairly short notice or when we know that they will be restocked and want to make sure our customers don’t miss out.

Some items, like the moss or foliage, won’t necessarily say that they are preorder, but if you are ordering large amounts, we will have to order them in. We usually have a 1-2 day turnaround on this but will get in touch if it will be any longer. For products like this, if you’re going to order really large amounts we would definitely advise getting in touch first and we can let you know the timescale.

For items that have a specific preorder option, this means either that we are restocking at some point in the near future or that we will restock when the item is ordered. For common plants, we will usually restock when someone orders them, which can take a couple of weeks; we would be able to let you know the timescale in each individual case. With soil, for example, we would probably have a big restock planned, and with items like Christmas trees we run a preorder system which opens in around October and which will be tied to certain dates when trees will be delivered. By preordering you would be helping us manage supply and demand, prevent waste and not get exhausted from lugging quite as many trees around too!
