Is sending plants in the post risky?Updated 3 months ago

We have been sending plants up and down the country for a few years now, and we like to think we have our methods down to an art:

  • To keep the plant and all its soil in the pot, we secure it with thin paper and, if necessary, sticky tape.
  • Next, we wrap the plant in corrugated cardboard, and where required we protect delicate leaves with extra paper.
  • Then we put your plant into a cardboard box for travel, and fill any empty space to limit how much your plant will move around in transit.

We also do not send freshly-watered plants in the post. This is not only because of the impracticality of sending wet objects in cardboard - a soggy plant may dissolve its packaging - but also because the plant will be in the dark; wet, dark soil is a recipe for a sad plant. Where a plant that has been sent online is due a water, we will write on the packing slip that this is the case - so keep an eye out for our little notes! We may delay your shipping if your plant has just been watered, too, but if this takes it out of our expected dispatch time we will get in touch.

If your plant arrives to you unhappy, we are glad to advise. Please send us a photo of the plant - and, if relevant, packaging - straight away.
