Why is my plant turning yellow?Updated 3 months ago

Yellowing leaves can be caused by a few different things. The main culprits are:

  • Too much sun. If your plant is adapted to shade but you’re keeping it in direct sun, it may be turning the leaves yellow

  • Too much or too little water. If your plant is drier than it wants to be, its leaves may go yellow and drop off. However, if it gets too much water, this can also cause rapid leaf yellowing and loss, especially in the case of root rot. Make sure you’re checking the oil moisture levels frequently and watering when your plant is thirsty.

  • Pests. Some pesky plant munchers have the side effect of turning leaves yellow, so it may be worth taking a close look at those leaves, with a magnifying glass if possible, to see if anything has been munching at the leaves. If your plant has yellowing leaves, we’d recommend checking the individual care instructions for that plant before coming to your conclusion, as different plants need different amounts of light and water as a baseline and knowing this can give you a better clue as to what’s likely to be wrong.
