Can you recommend easy houseplants?Updated 3 months ago

Yes we can! Most of the time ‘easy care’ means low maintenance and water needs - if you want a plant that’s fine with only being occasionally remembered, both the ZZ Plant and Snake Plant are great choices - and they’re flexible with light levels too. If you have somewhere sunny, most cacti & succulents will work with low maintenance ‘plant parenting’.

If you do want to look after your plants, but are worried you’ll be inconsistent with watering or forget quite often, Pothos, Philodendron and Monstera plants are also easygoing, and can cope with being forgotten, but will prefer a bit more water than a succulent. Steer clear of the rarer variegated Philodendrons and Monstera if you’re worried about how well you’ll care for them, though - they can be trickier, and are more expensive, so it’s slightly higher stakes if you aren’t confident.

And if you are a chronic overwaterer, choose a Spider Plant, Maranta (Prayer Plant) or Parlour Palm - all of these are fine with their soil being moist all the time. It’s probably a good idea to have them in a pot with drainage holes if you love pouring water in, as this way you can make sure they aren’t just sat in puddles.

When searching in the website, you can try the keyword ‘easygoing’ to find easier plants, or why not try our Plant Novice Mystery Bundle, and we can kit you out with some plants perfectly suited to beginners?
